Shoutout Families & Friends of Louisiana’s Incarcerated Children (FFLIC)
FFLIC is a grassroots, state-wide, membership-based, inter-generational organization working to transform the systems that put children at risk of prison. Through empowerment, leadership development, and training FFLIC strives to keep children from going to prison and supports those who have and their families.
Youth Organizing Work
FFLIC’s Youth Leadership Cohort empowers directly impacted young people—particularly Black and brown youth affected by the criminal legal, education, and foster care systems—to become leaders, organizers, and advocates for transformative justice.
Through leadership development, political education, mentorship, healing-centered support, and paid leadership opportunities, youth gain the skills to shape policy, organize their communities, and advance solutions rooted in lived experience.
Youth leaders play meaningful roles across FFLIC chapters, engage in peer mentorship, and help design alternatives to incarceration while advocating for more equitable schools, systems, and institutions.

Campaign Work
FFLIC advances justice reform through two interconnected, complementary campaigns:
No More Prisons — focuses on organizing, advocacy, and policy change aimed at reducing and ultimately ending youth incarceration while expanding community-based alternatives that promote healing, opportunity, and public safety.
Let Kids Be Kids — a youth- and family-led narrative change campaign that challenges harmful stereotypes and fear-based rhetoric used to justify punitive policies. Through storytelling, media engagement, digital advocacy, and public education, directly impacted youth and families reframe public conversations about safety, accountability, and young people’s potential.
Together, these campaigns work to shift public narratives, elevate the voices of impacted communities, build support for systemic reforms, and advance a vision of safety grounded in care, strong families, quality education, mental health supports, and community investment rather than incarceration.
